Beyond Boulton: the archaeology of Birmingham’s industries
Birmingham’s long industrial past includes the work of well-known figures such as Mathew Boulton. Archaeological excavations have revealed the processes and products of a wide range of the city’s industries including pottery manufacture in the Roman period, medieval pottery-making and leather tanning, and brick kilns and glass cones from more recent times.
Dr Mike Hodder is an honorary lecturer at the University of Birmingham and was formerly Birmingham City Council’s Planning Archaeologist. He has been involved in the excavation of archaeological sites of various periods throughout Birmingham and has written books on the archaeology of Birmingham and the archaeology of Sutton Park.
