The Müller Grand Prix Birmingham will be one of the highlights of the 2018 outdoor season as we welcome the world’s best athletes to the Alexander Stadium on Sunday 18 August.
Due to take place shortly after Berlin’s European Championships (7-12 August), the meeting will see the best in the world, including recently crowned European champions, taking to the field of play to go head to head in the West Midlands.
Highlights of 2017’s meeting included Mutaz Essa Barshim’s sublime clearance at 2.40m in the high jump, a moment seemingly enjoyed most by his competitors who rushed to congratulate the Qatari athlete before he proceeded to take the bar home with him as a memento of the day.
Elsewhere, Sir Mo Farah brought the house down as he raced on the track in the UK for the very last time, with victory over 3000m the fitting end for him at the Alexander Stadium, the very venue at which he claimed the British record over the same distance a year earlier, while Dutchwomen Sifan Hassan smashed the meeting record in the women’s equivalent.
A Diamond League meeting which has regularly played host to the world’s best athletes, the 2018 edition will serve as the final meeting prior to the series finals in Zurich and Brussels.
